Sunday Food Prep and a Weekend Update

24 Mar

For the past few weeks I have been prepping food for the week on Sunday.  While I have always wanted to do this, I just never got around to it (Procrastination Queen right here).

But recently I’ve definitely been inspired by Lindsay’s Sunday Food Prep posts – and I love having food ready for the week!  I would much rather get it all done on Sunday and have more time to relax after getting out of work Mon-Fri.  Prepping food on Sunday has also helped me eat breakfast in the morning.  I used to be a religious oatmeal breakfast eater but since starting my full-time job, I have been slacking.  I feel like I am always rushing to get out the door that I either forget to eat breakfast or just don’t have the time.  Since I have started making either breakfast bars, hardboiled eggs and quinoa bakes on Sundays – all I need to do is pull it out of the fridge and I am good to go!

Here are some of the things I prepped for this week:

sunday-food-prep
(clockwise from top left:  Spinach burger mix, spinach burgers on the grill, baked sweet potatoes, hardboiled eggs, list of recipes, sweet and spicy cucumbers, Thai Curry soup, grocery list – not all ingredients for every recipe are included in grocery list)  Not pictured:  Healthy Quinoa Egg Bake, Quinoa Energy bars, cut up celery and made large batch of quinoa.

We had the Thai Curry soup tonight for dinner.  It is one of my favorite recipes.  So easy and super flavorful.  I actually substituted hashbrowns for the potatoes this time around and I found it really bulked up the soup.  Try it out if you have a Trader Joe’s in your area and you like curry!

Quick Weekend Update:

This weekend went way too fast…but don’t they all.

Happy-Hour
Friday I went to happy hour with a few girl friends after work.  Wonderful conversation as always.  Brittany is engaged (I am a bridesmaid!) so we chatted wedding stuff which is always fun!

I met up with BLC and Brittany’s fiance at a bar down the street when every one dispersed.  Overall, a very nice night.

On Saturday BLC and I laid around for a while.  We watched about 40 episodes of Dexter and took a nap.  & it was glorious.

When we finally got up and started moving, we decided to go into the city for dinner and dessert.  We got pizza in SoHo which was good, but nothing to write home about.  The dessert was definitely the highlight.

Chobani-soho
Chobani Soho!  I have been wanting to try this place out for-ev-er!  & it did not disappoint!  BLC got the Peanut Butter and Jelly which was sweet and salty – plus I am a sucker for Chobani and PB.  I got the Fig and Walnut which was delicious.  I love figs!!  I definitely want to go back and try some of the savory flavors.  & the best part?  We got to take home the adorable little glass bowls.  Love them!

After our great experience at Chobani SoHo – we headed up to Trader Joe’s Wine Shop for a few bottles of wine and the Trader Joe’s next door for dog food and a few other items.  Even though the line was long (as usual) it went pretty fast and we were headed home in about 45 minutes.

We got home around 8PM, drank some wine, watched some more Dexter (addicted – we are almost done the 7th season and I am soooo sad) and passed out.  Nice little relaxing Saturday.

So that’s my weekend!  Hope you all had great weekends…too bad it is Monday tomorrow.  Wah.

A 5 miler & SoCal Pickbacks

YTD: 263/600 miles for 2012

Sorry about being MIA. This weekend has been a whirlwind!

On Friday, BLC & I flew out of Newark to Ontario, CA.

20120827-172627.jpg

We had to leave this little one with my parents :( I miss her already!

I wore my Pro Compression socks on the plane. I always have to have socks on when I travel so I don’t have to step on the floor barefoot through security. Yick!

We arrived late on Friday night (& totally surprised BLC’s grandmom!) and went to bed shortly after because we were exhausted.

I woke up around 8:30a on Saturday & hydrated for my run.

20120827-172820.jpg

Nuun & TJ’s instant coffee! So necessary!

BLC drove me up to this path in the middle of Euclid Ave in Ontario, CA.

20120827-173008.jpg

It is kinda a dirt road which was harsh on my legs. But what was worse was that the first half is a slow & steady uphill. I was dying by the end (it was 2.6 ish miles long) but was super excited to turn around & run downhill for the rest of the run.

Other than that, the path was really nice because it was tree-lined which provided some shade & the houses up & down Euclid are gorgeous!

My splits definitely reflect the uphill & downhill portions.

Mile 1 – 11:38
Mile 2 – 11:25
Mile 3 – 11:12
Mile 4 – 9:48
Mile 5 – 10:19

Super inconsistent but whatevs. I wore my SweatPink tank to represent on the West Coast & my amazing compression shorts.

20120827-173643.jpg

#sweatpink

BLC & I went home, showered & got ready for my GIL’s 90th birthday party. I met a ton of distant family members which was nice & I think my GIL had a really good time. Overall, a success!

After the party, BLC and I got to hang out with his cousins who I LOVE. I also introduced them to my favorite shot (and may or may not have drank way too many of them…YOLO?)

20120827-173949.jpg

Best pickles evarrrrr.

20120827-174030.jpg

Pickle backs!!

20120827-174059.jpg

We had lots of bourbon/whiskey/scotch & roasted marshmallows on the fire. I also attempted a cartwheel & fell on my face. Good job, Alex.

BLC’s cousin’s son challenged us to the ice/salt challenge which turned out to be a terrible idea…& also proved that women can handle a bit more pain then the boys :)

20120827-174306.jpg

Don’t try it at home!

20120827-174333.jpg

Here’s my battle wound. It still hurts. Another good one, Alex.

20120827-174423.jpg

Now, this is gonna happen for the rest of the week :)

Woot woot!

What’s your favorite shot/drink?

Lots and Lots of Random Facts About Yours Truly

10 Aug

LIEBSTER AWARD!

I was very excited to see that I was nominated by Zero to Twenty Six Point Two and Burning Babi Fat for the Liebster Award!
Thanks, loves!  I really appreciate it!

So now you all get to hear eleven random facts about moi AND 22 answers to 22 questions!

Some random facts:

1.  I have a large tattoo on the small of my back (technically, a tramp stamp.  yup.  I am a classy broad).  I got it when I had just turned 18 and hid it from my parents for a year.  Luckily, BLC doesn’t mind it and I can’t see it.  I basically forget about it at all times.  BLC actually had to remind me I had one for this random fact.  It is a lotus flower.  Sorry no pic ;)

2.  I hate bikes and umbrellas (more like afraid of them).  I am so afraid when I am on a bike that I am going to crash (which was not that unfounded since I crashed twice during my triathlon.) or someone is going to crash into me.  Also, when I’m just walking I’m so afraid of a biker running into me (it would most likely be my fault, of course) and/or someone poking me in the eye with an umbrella.  Totally rational fears, right?  Good thing I moved to NYC.

3.  I have severe road rage.  I don’t know what comes over me but when I am in the car, I become the devil.  It’s not cute.

4.  I have super curly hair but I get it straightened every 3 months or so.  Always want what ya can’t have.

5.  I have ridden on a camel in Egypt.  Yup.

6.  I love Bloody Mary’s in the morning and tequila in the evening.  I would much rather a spicy drink over a sweet drink.  & if we are day drinking, I will have a Bloody Mary in my hand.  Done.

7.  I have read Fifty Shades of Gray.  It was okay.  Entertaining but nothing crazy good.  I have been trying to finished Fifty Shades Darker since our trip to Aruba…so over a month.  Just not interested anymore.  That makes me the 1% of people who didn’t love it.  Guess I’m just a weirdo.

8.  I carry around toothpicks because my teeth attract food particles.  I honestly can get a piece of food stuck in my teeth after drinking juice.  I don’t know where the food comes from but it gets stuck in my teeth no matter what.  Toothpicks are my savior of life.

9.  I despise squirrels.  Yes, to you they may be cute and cuddly looking but to me they are walking rabies carriers.  Plus, when I was in college we lived in a run down house with squirrels living in the walls.  We could hear them running in the ceiling and walls constantly.  There was even an instance where one fell through the ceiling into my bathroom, ran around in there all night knocking over shampoo bottles and pooping in the shower.  Then my roommate let it out into the living room…and we never saw that squirrel again.  Shudder.

& as my girl Carrie Bradshaw has said, “They are just rats with cuter outfits.”

10.  I was in a sorority in college and I loved every second of it.  I am actually heading to the beach this weekend with about 16 of them.  I’m super excited!

11.  I am a diehard Penn State Nittany Lions and Philadelphia Eagles fan!  I absolutely love football and AM SO EXCITED FOR THE SEASON TO START!  I could talk your ear off about football…so I’ll just leave it at that ;)

So now that you know SO much more about me – how about some questions?!

Burning Babi Fat’s Questions:

9. What sport do you wish you could compete in the Olympics?
Track or gymnastics – they are my favs!  Plus, it would be pretty cool to bust out a backhand spring twisty thing at a party or something.
10. Red, white, or blue?
Red for lips; white for clothes; blue for eyes
11. Favorite travel spot?
Repeat!  Lake Havasu.  See above!
So that’s that!  Thanks for the nomination, girls!
And now for all of you – I made you read through all of my questions so I have one for you!
What is your favorite movie of all time???
Mine is a tie between Love and Basketball and Anchorman.  Love them both and could recite every word of them.

Restaurant Review – Fig & Olive

3 Aug

Last Friday BLC, my MIL & I went to Fig & Olive in the Meatpacking District of NYC for dinner. For those of you who don’t know, the Meatpacking District is full of fancy schmancy restaurants & clubs (that all used to be big meatpacking warehouses) & Fig & Olive was no exception.

20120802-211631.jpg

Fig & Olive features mainly Mediterranean cuisine which is what initially drew me to make a reservation here. Plus, they have a wall of booze.

20120802-211652.jpg

Now that’s class.

While our table was being set, we sat at the bar, people watched (lots of well-dressed people at this establishment) and ordered a drink.

I got the El Matador. Olay.

20120802-211933.jpg

Tequila, rum, fresh lime juice, cilantro syrup & muddled jalapeño. If you like a little spice, this is the drink for you. It was excellent! Refreshing with a little zing. (side note: it was so good, I had two)

BLC got my usual go to – dirty martini.

20120802-212117.jpg

Is that not the most beautiful dirty martini you have ever seen? Just me? Okay then…

We sat down at our table after a dude paid for his seltzer water with lime with a 100 dollar bill. Totally not making that up.

Because we aren’t millionaires & wanted to eat more than a side salad, we decided to take advantage of the Restaurant Week menu. Love Restaurant Week. Allowing poor people to eat like the rich for two weeks of the year :)

20120802-212511.jpg

For my appetizer, I got the Salmon Crudo.

20120802-212658.jpg

The salmon was super high quality & the addition of grapefruit really complemented the dish. The only downside was when BLC scolded me for eating the garnish. My bad.

BLC had the gazpacho & it was super tasty.

For my dinner, I had the Truffle Risotto. I typically order anything that has truffles in it because it is obviously the most expensive & the most delicious.

20120802-212933.jpg

In this case, it was absolutely the most delicious. Probably one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. For real. It was creamy but not too heavy & there were little chunks of mushrooms throughout. Plus, it was topped with shaved parmesan. It was wonderful.

BLC had the Steak Tartar (which I obviously didn’t try) but he said he liked the risotto much more. I win :)

And the true reason why I came to Fig & Olive – the dessert.

We all got the Chocolate Pot de Creme.

20120802-213356.jpg

We all loved it! It was chocolately but not too rich. We devoured it.

Overall verdict: if you have money, please check this place out!! Or just wait till next Restaurant Week ;)

But for serious, everything was absolutely delicious including the alcoholic beverages.

& on another note, because I promised – here is day 2 of the Fitness Cheerleader’s August Healthy Living/Fitness Blogger Writing Challenge!

Do you workout in the morning or at night?

Because I am a super crazy procrastinator, I tend to workout at night (as well as blog at night…sorry, loves). I really would love to workout more often in the morning because I feel great all day knowing that my workout is out of the way.

Do you workout in the morning or at night? If you workout in the morning…please give me some tips!

The Simple Things in Life A-Z

25 Jul

I saw this on Tina’s blog in the beginning of the month & I thought it was a great idea!

I say it all the time but it truly is the little things in life that can make it fantastic!

With that being said, here is a list of things that make me smile:

A – Apples. Preferably Pink Lady apples. They are by far my favorite!

B – BLC. My favorite person in the world. He deals with my craziness & loves me just the same :) I’m super lucky to have him in my life (BLC, you are stuck with me for-ev-er!)

20120725-102944.jpg

C – Coffee. Flavored coffees, iced coffees, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, bodega coffee. I just love coffee :)

20120725-103454.jpg

.65 cent coffee – amazing!

D – Dancing. Now, when I say dancing I mainly mean watching other people dance. I love shows like So You Think You Can Dance & America’s Best Dance Crew. I love going to a concert or club & watching people dance. & occasionally you will catch me swaying to the music but I’d rather leave it to the people who can DANCE :)

E – Eagles. I am a giant football fan (can’t wait for the season to start! It’s like Christmas!!) & since I am from Philadelphia originally, obviously my NFL team is the Eagles! Go birds!

F – Freckles. Could you have guessed what I was gonna write for F? If not, you don’t even know me :) But in all seriousness, Freckles can make me smile just by laying there. She is the sweetest little animal of life. I love her.

20120725-104237.jpg

G – Gerber Daisies. When I worked at a flower shop, I fell in love with gerbs (slang for people in the know. I’m super cool). They are just so bright & cheery!

20120725-104457.jpg

My absolute fav are the white ones with the pink center. So pretty!

H – HOUSE! I was never a big fan of house music until recently but it definitely pumps me up! I love the strong beats & build ups. Plus, house concerts are by far the best! Check out some of my favorite house songs to run to.

I – Ikea. Pretty sure our entire apartment is from Ikea. Plus, I could walk around that place for hours!!

J – Jeans. I love jeans. You can dress them up, dress them down. I pretty much live in jeans. & my middle name is Jean so there’s that…

K – Kettle Corn. Yum! Salty & subtly sweet. Great combo.

20120725-105151.jpg

L – Lox. This is where the Jew in me comes out. I just love Lox & cream cheese on a bagel. Delish!

20120725-105504.jpg

M – Magazines. I probably subscribe to about 9 magazines & have a pile of magazines to read at all times. To be honest, it is probably a little excessive but I love them!

N – NYC. As of you couldn’t tell, I’m in love with NYC. The energy, the people, all of the amazing things to do at any given time – I love it all. I’m so happy to have the opportunity to live here.

20120725-105908.jpg

O – Oyster Shooters. I don’t know what it is about oyster shooters but I get so excited when we go to a place that has them! (For those that don’t know, oyster shooters are an oyster, horseradish, cocktail sauce & pepper vodka in a shot glass – & they are delicious IMHO)

P – Pickles. Pickled veggies, pickled tomatoes, regular pickles…every kind except the Bread and Butter pickles – those are gross.

20120725-110330.jpg

Q – Quinoa. Such a great food! Filling, versatile & good for you. Can’t ask for much more.

R – Running! Running is my stress relief. It can always change my mood for the better. & I feel super accomplished after a good race – that is a great feeling!

20120725-110717.jpg

S – Sushi & Sake. Sushi is definitely one of my favorite foods & Nigori (unfiltered sake) is the perfect compliment. Sake bombs are pretty awesome, too.

T – Trader Joe’s. Duh.

20120725-111044.jpg

U – US Weekly. One of my many magazine subscriptions but this one gets pushed to the top of the pile every week. Definitely one of my guilty pleasures.

V- Vegetable Soup. I could eat Veggie soup every day.

20120725-112215.jpg

W – Whiskey. I am definitely a whiskey girl. I prefer scotch but a good whiskey is fine by me! In fact, one of my favorite places in NYC is a whiskey bar called The Post Office. & they have a pickle plate <3

20120725-112437.jpg

X – Xerox Machines. Now this was a hard one. But xerox machines are pretty great. Who would want to copy documents by hand? Great invention…& the only legit word I could think of that starts with an X.

Y – Yelp. I use Yelp.com for everything! Choosing restaurants, bars, doctors, hotels…I figure if enough people like/dislike a place, you will know what to expect. I haven’t been let down yet. Love Yelp!

Z – Zzzzz’s. Sleep is my favorite. I always feel much better when I get more sleep & I love sleeping in.

20120725-113042.jpg

What are some simple things in your life that make you smile??

Quick Aruba Recap

10 Jul

YTD: 225/600 miles for 2012

Last week BLC & I went to Aruba for vacation! It was beautiful, relaxing & overall, amazing! I figured I would post a quick vaca recap for those that are interested!

20120710-134409.jpg

At the airport, I tried to keep my splurging to a minimum…I mean, I had to be in a bathing suit all week ;) but this breakfast was fantastic! It was the new Banana Blueberry Oatmeal from McDonald’s & I totally recommend it! Yum!

I also brought a bunch of healthy snacks (banana chips, pistachios, kettle corn, trail mix, etc). It kept us from buying crappy airport food!

It is obviously important to stay healthy at the airport – but it was especially important for us because we had to fuel for the next day’s event…

OUR FIRST SPRINT TRIATHLON !! (this will have it’s own post, don’t you worry!) But real quick…

20120710-135213.jpg

My love & me. Who else’s husband would suggest a triathlon on vacation?! Love him.

Anywho…we laid low for the rest of the week (mainly because I was sore & bruised but what better recovery than laying on the beach in Aruba?).

Our week included:

20120710-135702.jpg

20120710-135729.jpg

Visiting lighthouses…

20120710-135817.jpg

Laying on the beach…

20120710-135857.jpg

Watching sunsets…

20120710-135918.jpg

Catching sunsets….

20120710-140004.jpg

Taking in the beautiful views…

20120710-140016.jpg

Trying to catch reptiles….& failing miserably

20120710-140122.jpg

Eating…

20120710-140140.jpg

& of course, spending quality time with BLC!

I also got a run in!!

20120710-140229.jpg

Prepping for my run on the beach.

20120710-140333.jpg

Hydrating from the little water baggie that they were giving out during the tri. It was HOT out there!! & running on the beach is HARD!!

20120710-140439.jpg

#proof

20120710-140456.jpg

Sandy sneakers!!

20120710-140531.jpg

I was a sweaty MESS! Tough run but so totally worth it!! #sweatpink

Now it is back to reality…which means running over the Williamsburg Bridge rather than the beach. Easier but not as pretty :)

Hope you enjoyed our vaca pics! Triathlon recap coming!

Also, check out the awesome Sweat Pink Blog Hop over at Get Fit Naturally!

Oh, I haven’t told you yet – I’m a new Sweat Pink Ambassador!! I’m super excited to be part of such a great program. A fun giveaway will be happening soon!! Get ready!

Week in Review and End of the Year Goal

20 Jun

Monday June 11

Ran 3 miles in 33 minutes with BLC over the Williamsburg Bridge.

Tuesday June 12

Crunches, 3×1 min planks, push-ups

Wednesday June 13

Ran 3 miles in 33 minutes with BLC over the Williamsburg Bridge (notice a trend here?)

Thursday June 14

Speedwork on the treadmill. Did not go as planned. Started off way too fast, ended way too slow. I think I overestimated my speed because of last week…oops. 5 miles in 52 minutes in the books.

20120620-094432.jpg

Also of note, I tried the Apple Turnover Über Larabar before my run.

20120620-094650.jpg

I was a big fan. Very different from the original Larabars – much more chunky & sweet. Really good, though. I will definitely be trying the other flavors.

On Thursday night, I was in Philly for a close friend of my brother’s memorial service. So sad. 21 year old kid…if you couldn’t guess, it had to do with drugs. The service was very emotional because I had known him when he was quite a bit younger & he was always the sweetest, most caring kid. But he was also very impressionable & always wanted people to like him.

What I took away from the service was:

1. Don’t take for granted the moments you have with the ones you love. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

2. If you have a family member or friend that you are even somewhat concerned about, don’t ignore it. While they may not listen to you (they probably won’t), the more help that is offered to them, the easier it may be to change their lives.

<3 r.i.p. L.A.

Friday June 15

Needless to say, Friday I was a bit down. I worked at my Dad’s office & took NJ Transit back to NYC.

BLC & I watched some Natgeo & drank some scotch…then went to bed early. Wild & crazy Friday!

Saturday June 16

BLC and I woke up early for a long run on the East River. I did not bring my hydration belt (spoiler alert: bad idea) because I thought I would be able to use the water fountains on the East River path.

I ate a banana & we left around 9:30a (probably should have left a little earlier…) We ran over the Williamsburg Bridge and down the East River Path toward Chinatown. We turned around once we got to the Manhattan Bridge.

It was pretty hot & humid. I took advantage of every water fountain I passed & ran in the shade whenever possible. Regardless, it was wonderful to run with BLC! <3 husband/wife run dates.

When we got back to the Williamsburg Bridge, BLC headed back home & I continued up the East River Path.

The water fountains slowly stopped popping up. I kept hoping that I would miraculously stumble upon one…but no such luck. I crossed over at 34th street & then ran down 1st ave. I had wanted to run 10 miles but without any water…it just wasn't happening. Plus, I happened upon a Dunkin Donuts at 8.25 miles – so guess when I stopped my run?

I went into Dunkin Donuts & got a gigantic iced coffee which I purchased with sweaty money (sorry, cashier lady). I then walked down 1st ave about a half mile to the Essex stop & took the subway back home.

Things I learned on this long run:

1. I love running with BLC! We have been taking the pace really slow & stopping whenever he starts feeling like his shins are hurting. (he has had some shin splint issues in the past so we are doing everything possible to avoid it happening again)

2. When in doubt, bring water! Especially now that it is summer on the East Coast. Happy Summer Solstice!

3. Run long runs earlier if possible!

4. Put money in a plastic bag in your pocket so you don’t have to be embarrassed about giving soggy dollar bills to the DD cashier lady.

5. Always bring a Metro card (I did on this run but I will continue to do so even if I don’t think I will need it).

After our run, I came home, showered & then headed back into the city to meet up with a friend for lunch & a Central Park romp.

We went to SaraBeth’s across from Central Park South. We got seated right away & each got a drink. I had the Strawberry Mimosa – excellent! Our food was really good (we all had breakfast foods – Salmon Benedict, Salmon Scramble). Would recommend this restaurant if you are near Central Park.

After that we stopped by the liquor store & made rum/cokes for our walk through Central Park (straight class, I know).

I love Central Park!

20120620-102618.jpg

It was totally packed with people…

20120620-102644.jpg

BLC never believed me when I said that people laid out in Central Park…but I wasn’t lying!!

20120620-102726.jpg

We wandered around for a while, in awe that we were in the middle of NYC…

20120620-102803.jpg

Central Park is truly gorgeous.

But then we stumbled upon something that I will be frequenting every Saturday, Sunday or Holiday for the rest of my life (FYI 2:45p-6:45p)…

20120620-102917.jpg

The Central Park Dance Skaters!!!!!

20120620-103047.jpg

Um, amazing!

There is a section gated off, with a DJ in the middle & roller skaters/roller bladers DANCING around. This is by far the most entertaining thing I’ve ever seen in my life. We didn’t want to leave.

Did I mention this is in the middle of Central Park?!

There were quite a few characters who were participating…do you see that pup? Can you tell who her owner is? Also, can you see what is on her back?!

A bird! Guess where else that bird ended up?

Yep. That happened. Crazy amazing Saturday.

Sunday June 17

Nothing all day :)

Although we did head over to a friend’s house for a True Blood party that night. Obsessed.

Monday June 18

Ran 4 miles in 40 minutes over the Williamsburg Bridge & back with BLC. Beautiful running weather.

Also, made a wonderful dinner!

Tilapia & roasted cauliflower. This time I added the capers & used the same dressing for the cauliflower on the Tilapia. I cooked the tilapia for 12 minutes at 400 degrees & it turned out perfectly!

Now – my end of the year goal:

I want to run 600 miles by the end of the year. I have been running a bit more the past few weeks & while it is a lofty goal considering I am currently only at 208 miles for the year (I had a very low April & was not very consistent while moving), I think I can do it! I will keep you updated!

YTD: 208/600 miles for 2012

A bit too much beer (Brooklyn Brewery was great, though! Definitely recommend it if you’ve never been!)

A tasty brunch at Harefield Road (um…Salmon Benedict, coffee & a Bloody Mary for $12? Ahhmazing!)

Now I am ready to make some June Goals!

Yes I know this weekend was technically June but that’s okay…it will be our little secret ;)

So this past week BLC & I had to get physicals for an incentive program through our insurance. While I know I am healthy or at least try to be the majority of the time, it is always nice to be told by a doctor to continue to do exactly what I have been doing. Literally, we had dozens of tests & I was within the healthy range for all of them.

Not bragging, I promise…just nice to know when you put forth the effort, you get the benefits!

But the doctor trip wasn’t all wonderful news…I found out that i have gained quite a few lbs since BLC & I moved out to New York (I have noticed my clothes fitting a little differently but I don’t own a scale so I didn’t realize how much I had actually gained). I know I’m in no way overweight (or even close for that matter) but it is summer so I wouldn’t mind losing a few lbs & getting back to my fighting shape!

But without further ado…

My June Goals:

1. Try to follow my new summer training closely. (I use SmartCoach through the Runner’s World website…you type in a recent race time, what you are training for, how many miles you want per week, when you want your long run, the date of the race, etc. It then gives you a calendar with a complete training program with paces, speed work, tempo runs…all for free. I definitely recommend it.)

2. Leg workouts 3x a week. I did my first set of exercises today!
20 leg extensions
30 second wall sit
20 plié squats
10 regular squats
20 walking lunges
Repeat 3x

3. Yoga at least 2x a week. I definitely think all the yoga I did last month helped with my flexibility & I know it can’t hurt mentally :)

4. Mindful eating! I am going to try to limit my sugar intake, keep drinking at least 80 ounces of water per day, more fiber & proper portions.

5. Floss everyday! I hear every where that flossing is so important but I am not very diligent about doing it every day. I want to make it a habit – starting now!

So that’s that…totally doable, right? Plus, I wouldn’t mind toning up a little since BLC & I are going to Aruba at the end of the month! Jealous?!

And now to clear up my tabs…

Lovely Links:

1. GPS Device Accuracy – really interesting article about how accurate your Garmin is on a regular basis as compared to the accuracy of road races.

2. 23 Paws – if you have a dog & you have a blog OR you just like hearing/looking at pictures of dogs – check this site out!! I will be linking up!

3. 10 mile run on the beach – sounds kinda hard but fun! My uncle is running it so I am thinking about it. Plus it’s pretty cheap, too.

4. Zombie Dash – need I say more? Check out the website! Kinda crazy yet insanely awesome.

5. In honor of summer running – an article on Foot Blisters. Super sexy.

6. Foam rolling! Yay! Another thing I need to do more of.

7. Another ode to summer running – how to take care of your running clothes properly. Kinda necessary.

8. How to improve running endurance. Most of the tips I have heard before but still a good article.

9. The age old question – Do you burn more calories running or walking? I was definitely under the impression a mile equals a mile but I was surprised by the real answer.

And last but certainly not least…

10. 4 reasons why you should run.

And a picture of my pup because she is adorable. & cause I can :)
