8 miles & Chi-town.

24 Apr

So Friday I had my first long run in NYC. & it was magical (runnerd alert).

I ran across the Williamsburg Bridge to the Lower East Side. Then, I ran over to the East River and ran till I hit 5 miles then turned around to head back.

The beginning of my run was pretty good,

Except I started running on the bike side of the Bridge at first…oops. & if anyone knows me, they know i am scared of bikes…I’m weird. Luckily no one ran into me or screamed profanities like I thought they would. & there was a cross-over half way across so I ran as quickly as possible over to the walkers/runners and away from those scary bikers.

Once I got down to the East River, I was in love. There was a breeze, it was beautiful, there were runners all over & there were water fountains everywhere! Wonderful, amazing, love, love, love!

Obviously, I will be running on the East River as much as possible.

At about 5.5 miles I started back to the bridge. I stopped at CVS to buy a water & dropped a nuun tablet in. I definitely needed water but it was a pain to run with a giant water bottle back over to Brooklyn. I also ate some lemon lime Shot Bloks before I started up over the bridge.

Not gonna lie, the last third of my run was not the greatest. I blame the water bottle & lack of East River. I got to my block at exactly 7 miles, & I totally almost stopped there. But then I told myself – I planned on running 8 miles. What is 10 more minutes?

Soooo, I ran half a mile down the street & then ran back. Pretty happy I didn’t wuss out.

Conclusion: sometimes it sucks & you just wanna stop but you tend to feel better if you don’t. Mental blocks can be run through & I know I feel better on the other side.

Oh yes, first time running in my compression socks. Think they helped :)

Total – 8 miles in 01:26:xx – success!

Then I went home, showered, packed, took the train to Penn station, headed to Newark International & hopped on a flight to Chi-town! It was a whirlwind trip but so much fun! BLC & I had missed our friends so we had a great time just spending time with them…with a little Chicago sightseeing thrown in.

I’m totally tired/exhausted but totally worth it!

In other running news:

1. I just signed up on a team for Reach the Beach Relay in NJ on October 12 & 13! I have been reading everyone’s Ragnar Relay recaps & getting totally jealous so when I saw Jamie’s request for teammates, I knew I had to contact her! & the rest is history! I’m pretty excited to run my first relay! 200 miles in 24 hours – so I will be running about 17 miles. Luckily, I have some time to train ;)

2. I signed up with North Brooklyn Runners. I’m looking forward to going to some weekly runs & meet some runners in my area! Plus, they have speed work meet-up each week at a track in the area!

3. I just committed to a 30 day yoga challenge. I have been wanting to add yoga to my training so I thought this might be a good push.

5. 26.2 Miles Later. 7 women gives their tips for marathon success – so inspiring! I love reading running tips :)

That is all. Later y’all.

bikers get SO pissed when you run/walk on the bike side, like it’s the worst mortal sin ever known to man. the williamsburg bridge has the worst bike snobs of all the bridges, i think. snobby hipsters!

i want to join the north brooklyn runners too– i was waiting until after my marathon on may 6 (i don’t know why??). give me all the dirt!

Haha…those silly biking hipsters. I was literally running with my shoulder touching the side so maybe I looked so ridiculous that they forgot they were mad until after they passed…

I will definitely keep ya updated on NBR dirt!
